The Mount of Saturn
Saturn is the ancient Roman god of agriculture, justice and strength, and the individual with a strong Saturn mount is prone to melancholy. Conversely, a well balanced Saturn influence grounds the seeker’s energies in the earth, which brings with it a sense of peaceful serenity and great wisdom.
Compare the Mount of Saturn, situated below the middle finger, with the other Mounts of the palm to determine its degree of development. A well-defined Saturn Mount will have a distinct appearance that is in balance with the overall planes of the hands. In the best of circumstances the balanced Saturn energies stimulate a desire for knowledge, a tendency to constantly weigh one’s own actions and analyze the reasons behind past choices and the height of discretion in personal situations. These individuals are well suited to positions that require caution and secretiveness.
An under-developed Mount signifies a loss of direction in life and immaturity. While fully capable of achieving great things, their light-hearted, carefree nature makes it challenging to keep them on task and get the job done. In this case the lack of self motivation can be enhanced by Saturn’s association with its adjoining Mounts. Jupiter will stimulate their desire for success and Apollo will help them develop a sense of refinement and appreciation for beauty.
Individuals with an overly developed Saturn Mount are prone to depression and, if left unchecked, suicide. They are extremely moody individuals prone to self-derision and a general sense of defeat.
Look to the Saturn finger for a better indication of the development of Saturn characteristics in the seeker. A finger that extends above its neighbors only by the height of the nail is considered normal, while an overly long finger reflects an overly developed Mount. A distinctly undersized finger represents the frivolous nature of the under-developed Saturn energy and is often reinforced by the total absence of a Fate Line.
