The interested student can learn the basics of palm reading, or chiromancy, in a few short hours from one of any of a large collection of teaching books on the market. Understanding the intricacies of the art and reading with accuracy and consistency is a lifetime pursuit.
Some palmists read and interpret the lines, mounts and shape of the palm and fingers intuitively while others restrict their readings to the literal interpretation of these features. Far more fall somewhere in-between and incorporate the ability to tap into the energy flowing through the lines and structure of the hand to provide comprehensive guidance for the seeker.
Hand shape indicates the general character, interests and talents of the seeker. The length and breadth of the palm, the length and shape of the fingers in relation to the palm, and the appearance of the fingernails are all considered in this initial assessment.
Next, the mounts are read. Mounts are the fleshy parts of the palm of the hand, and a prominent or generously fleshy mount indicates strength of the characteristic associated with that mount. When situated at the base of a finger, the mount punctuates the characteristics of that finger. Abundant volume indicates that the corresponding values are reinforced while undersized mounts indicate that the characteristic retreats in favor of more dominant influences.
Post or carry with you a diagram of the standard palm. Note the major influences of palm and finger shape and proportion. Identify the major lines and mounts and their corresponding values. Finally, log the names of the fingers, the sections of the fingers and their characteristics. Use this as your study primer to practice reading for yourself and others, and in time you will be able to perform a basic reading with confidence.
